Biography

Dr David Liu graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1993 with First Class Honours and completed his orthopaedic training in Sydney through the Australian Orthopaedic Association training program in 2002. He subsequently completed fellowships in lower limb arthroplasty and reconstruction at the Nepean Centre for Joint Reconstruction in Sydney, Toronto Western Hospital in Canada, and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in the United Kingdom from 2003 to 2004.

Dr Liu specialises in hip and knee surgery, with particular interests in computer navigation, robotic-assisted surgery, knee balancing and the use of artificial intelligence to optimise patient outcomes. He is involved in international hip and knee prosthesis design teams and has a strong interest in education and training, having hosted locally and internationally trained fellows and visiting surgeons in hip and knee arthroplasty. He regularly lectures nationally and internationally and is actively involved in orthopaedic research, including supervision of research students and publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr Liu is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Mater Private Hospital Gold Coast and an Honorary Adjunct Associate Professor at Bond University. He is Secretary of the Arthroplasty Society of Australia, past Scientific Secretary of the Queensland Branch of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, Vice-Chair of the Knee Arthroplasty Subspecialty Committee of SICOT, and a member of the Leadership Group of the Asia Pacific Arthroplasty Society. He also serves on the Editorial Boards of Knee Surgery and Related Research and Arthroplasty.
