Biography

Dr David Liu graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1993 with first class honours and completed his orthopaedic training in Sydney with the Australian Orthopaedic Association program in 2002. He subsequently completed fellowships in lower limb arthroplasty and reconstruction at the Nepean Centre for Joint Reconstruction Sydney, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital United Kingdom and Toronto Western Hospital Canada in 2003 to 2004.

Dr Liu is President Arthroplasty Society of Australia 2026 to 2027, Chair Knee Arthroplasty Subspecialty Committee SICOT 2025 to 2027, Member International Knee Society, Editorial Board Knee Surgery and Related Research and Editorial Board Arthroplasty, and past Scientific Secretary Queensland Branch Australian Orthopaedic Association 2019 to 2023.

Dr Liu specialises in surgery of the hip and knee, with particular interest in robotic surgery, knee balancing and use of artificial intelligence in optimising patient outcomes. He is involved in both hip and knee prostheses and robotic international design teams. He has a special interest in teaching and training and has hosted both internationally and locally trained fellows and surgeon visitations instructing on hip and knee arthroplasty surgery. Dr Liu regularly lectures both locally and internationally.
