Dr Goutham Sivasuthan

Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy/colonoscopy, gallbladder disease and hernias (minimally invasive and open), skin cancer and melanoma surgery, reflux (GORD) and pilonidal disease, appendicitis, and emergency general surgery.   

Biography

Dr Goutham Sivasuthan is a highly skilled Australian trained general and endoscopic surgeon with extensive experience with upper gastrointestinal (GI), colorectal and hepatobiliary surgery, consulting and operating privately at Mater Private Hospital Redland and Mater Private Hospital South Brisbane. 

Dr Sivasuthan graduated from The University of Queensland with a with a double degree in medicine and biomedical science. 

He completed his medical residency at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He also trained at several hospitals across Queensland including in Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Mackay, Rockhampton, and Logan. 

Dr Sivasuthan fostered a commitment to provide medical care for these communities and is now a dedicated team member of the Flying Surgical Service, caring for rural and remote patients throughout Queensland. 

He completed the extensive general surgery training program, gaining advanced skills in minimally invasive techniques, upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy at leading Queensland hospitals including Gold Coast University Hospital. 

After becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Dr Sivasuthan pursued further fellowship training at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, specialising in reflux and hiatal hernia surgery and is an accredited endoscopist and colonoscopist with the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA). 

Dr Sivasuthan is also a Staff Specialist Consultant working in one of the busiest acute general surgery units in Brisbane. 

He is an associate lecturer at The University of Queensland and a lecturer at Griffith University. 

Dr Sivasuthan is an instructor with Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) program, throughout Australia and New Zealand and has contributed several research articles for peer-review.
