Biography

Dr Walker studied medicine at Edinburgh University, Scotland, graduating in 1996 and commenced obstetric and gynaecology training in 1998. He sat the highly competitive membership exam to the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists in 2001, graduating top of the worldwide field and winning the gold medal. 

In 2004, after consolidating his experience, Dr Walker chose to specialise in gynaecology and completed his three-year fellowship at the end of 2007. 

In 2008, Dr Walker came to Australia to undertake an additional one-year gynaecological fellowship at the Royal Women’s and Mater Hospitals in Brisbane, specialising in gynaecology and laparoscopic surgery. 

He then returned to a consultant post in gynaecology at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary Hospital, Scotland in early 2009. 

Later that year, Dr Walker performed the first ever total laparoscopic hysterectomy in Edinburgh and since then has spent considerable time teaching other consultants this technique, both in Edinburgh and elsewhere in the UK. 

He has special interests in general gynaecology, gynaecological cancer, laparoscopic/minimal access surgery and colposcopy.
