Muscle sparing arthroplasty of hip and knee, shoulder arthroplasty, arthroscopic treatment of shoulder conditions.

Dr Henry Kan is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in the operative management of hip, knee, shoulder and trauma conditions, consulting and operating at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane.

Dr Kan completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Western Sydney in 2013, before completing a Master of Trauma at the University of New England in 2018.

Following this, he completed specialist training through the Australian Orthopaedic Association’s Queensland training program and became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in orthopaedic surgery in 2025.

Dr Kan’s fellowship focused on contemporary operative management of hip, knee and shoulder conditions, which included arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery, shoulder reconstruction and shoulder arthroplasty. He also gained a clinical interest in muscle-sparing approaches to hip and knee replacement surgery, with an emphasis on minimising soft-tissue disruption to support early mobilisation and recovery following joint replacement.  

He is actively involved in clinical research, with a particular interest in joint replacement surgery and strategies to reduce postoperative infections. Dr Kan has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications across several orthopaedic journals in this topic,

Dr Kan holds public appointments across the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Mater Hospital Brisbane and STARS. He is committed to collaborating with colleagues to deliver evidence-based care achieving the best possible outcomes for all of his patients at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane.
