Biography
Dr Ian Young is a highly experienced, dual-qualified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with
more than 30 years of clinical expertise. He currently practises at Mater Private Hospital
Rockhampton, offering advanced surgical care in dental implants, corrective jaw surgery,
and cleft lip and palate procedures.
A graduate of The University of Queensland in Dentistry, Dr Young began his career in
private practice before pursuing his passion for Rugby League in the south of France,
followed by four years playing Rugby Union with the London Irish Club.
While in the UK, Dr Young continued his dental career by completing a Master’s degree in
Oral Surgery at the prestigious Eastman Dental Hospital in London. He earned a
Fellowship from the College of Surgeons in Ireland and undertook an additional 18
months of advanced surgical training at The Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead.
Returning to Australia in 1991, Dr Young completed two years as a Senior Registrar in
Adelaide before enrolling in a Medical Degree at the University of Adelaide. After
graduating, he relocated to the Sunshine Coast, where he completed his medical
internship and founded MIC—the region’s first specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
practice.
Dr Young has placed thousands of dental implants and has a special interest in
orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery, helping patients improve both function and facial
aesthetics. He is also deeply committed to cleft lip and palate surgery, regularly
volunteering in the Philippines and China to provide life-changing care to children in
need.
