A/Prof Jay Iyer

Associate Professor Jay Iyer is an advanced endoscopic surgeon practising at Mater Private Hospital Townsville.

A/Prof Iyer’s expertise lies in the field of complex gynaecological surgical problems, with a particular focus on complex laparoscopies, severe endometriosis, large uterine and pelvic masses and pelvic floor disorders.

He trained at the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India and holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pune.

A/Prof Iyer also holds a Diplomate of the National Board in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in India and is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London.

He has a diverse training and work background, including serving in the Armed Forces for 16 years and retiring as a Classified (Senior) Specialist, having attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

A/Prof Iyer moved to Townsville in 2010 where he trained further in urogynaecology and fine-tuned his advanced laparoscopic surgery skills.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the United Kingdom.

Today, A/Prof Iyer operates the Mater Pelvic Health - Minimal Access Gynaecology service, which offers focussed, multi-speciality, tertiary-level management of the most complex gynaecological and urogynaecological conditions.
