Biography
Dr Jonathan Banks applies a holistic approach to the care of his patients. He is an astute, accomplished physician who prides himself on patient communication, comfort and dignity. While his core practice is in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, he understands the importance of the entire patient journey. Dr Banks has achieved additional specialist training in General Medicine and a Clinical Diploma in Palliative Medicine, providing him with a unique skillset to care for his patients at any stage of their journey.
Jonathan has completed undergraduate Bachelor of Pharmacy and post-graduate Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery Degrees at University of Queensland. He obtained Fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2022. Dr Banks completed specialist training with Fellowships in Respiratory Medicine, Sleep Medicine and Adult General and Acute Care Medicine.
Jonathan has multiple areas of expertise including complex airways disease, lung cancer assessment and management, lung nodules, interstitial lung diseases, respiratory and non-respiratory sleep disorders, undifferentiated respiratory disorders such as chronic cough and unexplained breathlessness, chronic respiratory infection and pulmonary vascular diseases. He is skilled in thoracic ultrasound, pleural interventions, bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound and complex non-invasive ventilation.
Outside of his appointment with Mater Private Hospital Gold Coast, Dr Banks is a Staff Specialist at Gold Coast University Hospital and Senior Lecturer at Griffith University. He is a dedicated family man who cherishes time with his wife and two children. Community-centred, Dr Banks serves as a Justice of the Peace and is a member of multiple social organisations.
