Dr Karthik Nath

Lymphoma, multiple myeloma, leukaemia, haemostasis and thrombosis, myelodysplastic syndromes and myeloproliferative disorders, transplantation and cellular therapy, non-malignant haematology.

Biography

Dr Karthik Nath is a clinical haematologist at Icon Cancer Centre in South Brisbane, consulting at Mater Private Hospital, Brisbane. He also serves as Deputy Director of Cellular Therapy at Icon.

Dr Nath has extensive expertise in blood cancers, stem cell transplantation, and cellular immunotherapy.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, Hons) from The University of Queensland, where he also completed a PhD in lymphoma biology, supported by The Leukaemia Foundation and an HSANZ Scholarship.

He began his clinical career as an Internal Medicine Registrar with Metro South Health Service before completing dual fellowships in Haematology and Hematopathology at the Townsville Hospital and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Dr Nath undertook a clinical fellowship at Icon, followed by an advanced fellowship in cancer immunotherapy at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre (MSK) in New York, USA. At MSK he was appointed Consultant Haematologist in the Cellular Therapy Service, where he looked after patients receiving CAR T-cell therapy and tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs).

His research focuses on cellular immunotherapy and transplantation. He has published in leading journals including first author publications Nature Medicine, Blood, American Journal of Hematology and Blood Advances and has presented at major international conferences. He is a strong advocate for clinical trials.

Dr Nath also holds specialist certifications from Harvard Medical School and the European School of Oncology.

Fluent in English and Tamil, he is passionate about education and regularly lectures on haematology and CAR T-cell therapy.
