Dr Kayla Ward is a neurologist with a clinical specialty in neuroimmunology, particularly central nervous system demyelinating disorders, including multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD). She completed her advanced training in Queensland before undertaking a neuroimmunology fellowship at the Brain and Mind Centre and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. During her fellowship, Dr Ward also completed neurophysiology training with a focus on the diagnosis and management of autoimmune neuromuscular diseases, including myasthenia gravis and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy.

Dr Ward is passionate about establishing a multidisciplinary clinic for patients with autoimmune disorders affecting both the central and peripheral nervous systems. This would include the provision of holistic care through allied health engagement to support overall wellbeing, alongside appropriate disease-modifying therapy with vigilant monitoring of disease activity, treatment and overall health.

Dr Ward is also a general neurologist who manages a wide range of neurological conditions, including stroke, epilepsy and headache disorders. She currently holds several academic appointments, including Senior Lecturer and Senior Research Fellow at Griffith University School of Medicine.

Dr Ward has a strong interest in clinically applicable research. She is currently involved in a number of research projects and clinical trials focused primarily on multiple sclerosis and myasthenia gravis, conducted in collaboration with Gold Coast University Hospital and Griffith University.

Dr Ward leads the neurology advanced training program at Gold Coast University Hospital and the Multiple Sclerosis Service at Robina Hospital.
