Biography
Dr Kevin Ng is a cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist who specialises in the management of heart rhythm abnormalities. He is a consultant cardiologist at the Gold Coast University Hospital and has special interests in the prevention of sudden cardiac death, inherited cardiac diseases and heart failure treatment.
Dr Ng completed his medical training at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom and obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), before returning to Australia where he achieved specialist accreditation in cardiology, having trained at the Gold Coast Hospital and the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane.
Dr Ng went on to pursue sub-specialty training in electrophysiology and pacing at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, before heading overseas to complete a fellowship under the supervision of Dr George Klein in London, Ontario, Canada – considered to be one of the grandfathers of cardiac electrophysiology. Here, Dr Ng mastered skills in ablative treatments for atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, and ventricular tachycardia. He is also proficient in the implantation and management of a whole range of implantable cardiac electronic devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization therapy which include more novel therapies such as leadless pacemaker systems and subcutaneous implantable cardiac defibrillators.
Dr Ng is one of a few cardiac electrophysiologists who has also completed training in the diagnosis and management of inherited cardiac diseases having been given the opportunity to undertake a research fellowship with the eminent molecular cardiologist Professor Silvia Priori in Italy.
Prior to moving to the Gold Coast in 2024, he had been the Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing at the Cairns Hospital where he started the only arrhythmia service in Far North Queensland and was also the clinical lead for the region’s Heart Failure Service. Furthermore, Dr Ng pioneered the only cardiac genomics clinic in the state specialising in treatment of inherited cardiovascular diseases (including inherited arrhythmia syndromes, familial cardiomyopathies, familial aortic diseases as well as familial hypercholesterolaemia), providing holistic care to patients and their families.
Dr Ng provides inpatient and outpatient consultation services at Mater Private Hospital Gold Coast and John Flynn Hospital. Weekend and holiday cover is provided by other members of the Gold Coast Heart Centre, providing a 24-hour, 365-day per year service.
