Biography
Dr Mariya Abdullah is a Queensland-trained General and Colorectal Surgeon with advanced subspecialty training in colorectal, proctology and pelvic floor surgery. She provides comprehensive surgical care for a wide range of bowel and colorectal conditions, from common problems such as haemorrhoids and fissures to complex colorectal disease and cancer.
Dr Abdullah has a particular interest in pelvic floor disorders, including faecal incontinence and prolapse, conditions that can have a significant impact on everyday life but are often difficult for patients to discuss. She takes a straightforward and considered approach to these problems, with the aim of identifying the underlying cause and offering treatment options tailored to each patient.
Dr Abdullah believes that good surgical care starts with a clear understanding of the problem and the options available. She takes time to explain diagnoses, discuss both surgical and non-surgical treatment options, and ensure patients understand what to expect before, during and after surgery.
Dr Abdullah has completed three years of dedicated advanced training in colorectal and pelvic floor surgery across Brisbane and the Gold Coast. She has extensive experience in laparoscopic and robotic surgery, and where appropriate is passionate about using minimally invasive techniques to reduce surgical trauma and support recovery.
Dr Abdullah grew up in London and completed her medical degree in 2011 before moving to Queensland. She completed her general surgical training in Queensland from 2019 to 2022, followed by advanced subspecialty training in colorectal surgery from 2023 to 2026, including dedicated robotic surgical training at Gold Coast University Hospital.
Outside of medicine, Dr Abdullah enjoys keeping active, spending time outdoors and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She is proud to provide specialist colorectal and general surgical care to patients across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
