Dr Max Maffey manages patients across the spectrum of cardiac disease. He specialises in the diagnosis and management of ischemic heart disease including diagnostic angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention. 

Dr Maffey’s other interests include the assessment of chest pain, the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, and the diagnosis and management of heart failure and valvular heart disease.  

A graduate of All Saints Anglican School, Dr Maffey was born and raised on the Gold Coast. He completed medical school at James Cook University where he graduated with an Academic Medal. Dr Maffey underwent basic physician training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital before completing advanced training in cardiology at the Princess Alexandra and Cairns Hospitals. He then completed a two-year fellowship in interventional cardiology at the London Health Sciences Centre in London, Ontario, Canada. Here, Dr Maffey received extensive training in complex percutaneous coronary intervention in addition to Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) and Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) closure. 

Dr Maffey is an active researcher and has been published in international journals. Dr Maffey has presented at national and international conferences and has been a contributing author for medical textbooks. Dr Maffey was an associate lecturer at the University of Queensland and has been involved in the teaching of both medical students and junior doctors. 

Dr Maffey believes in a holistic, individualised and patient-centred approach to the care of cardiac conditions with an emphasis on effective communication between doctor and patient. 

Dr Maffey performs coronary angiography and percutaneous intervention procedures at Mater Private Hospital Gold Coast.
