Biography

Associate Professor Michael von Papen graduated from The University of Queensland before completing surgical training and receiving his FRACS in 2002. Following this, he undertook further training in colorectal surgery through the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ). In 2005, Associate Professor von Papen commenced a consultant position at Gold Coast University Hospital where he became Director of the Department of Surgery and Head of the Colorectal Unit.

Associate Professor von Papen consults on all aspects of colorectal surgery and performs minimally invasive procedures, including robotic surgery. He also has a particular interest in abdominal wall reconstruction. He maintains close affiliations with Griffith University and Bond University. Associate Professor von Papen is a member of the Australian Minimally Invasive Colorectal Investigators (AMICI) group, contributing to multicentre clinical research.
