Biography

Dr Mohamed Shanavas is a clinical haematologist with interest in leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and benign haematology.

Dr Shanavas graduated in medicine from Calicut Medical College India. He completed his physician training from Adelaide in 2009, and advanced training in haematology in 2012. From 2012 to 2014 he did clinical and research fellowship in acute leukaemia and bone marrow transplantation at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and University of Toronto, Canada. After the fellowship he continued there as affiliated staff physician until his return to Australia in December 2015. After his return, he joined Rockhampton hospital as staff physician with affiliation with University of Queensland as Senior Lecturer. He moved to Brisbane after accepting the role of staff haematologist at Mater Cancer Centre, South Brisbane campus. There he provides a wide range of haematology service including chemotherapy for leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma, autologous bone marrow transplantation and therapeutic apheresis. He also does fortnightly outreach clinic at Mater Cancer Centre, Springfield campus. He is s Principal investigator and co-investigator for a number of clinical trials.
