Biography
Dr Mohammed Khateeb completed his general physician training across Pakistan, Kuwait, New Zealand and Australia and is an accredited Specialist General Physician and Specialist Geriatrician. He has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of general medical conditions, with a particular clinical interest in cognitive disorders, acute confusional states such as delirium, challenging behaviours, Parkinson’s disease, falls and the impact of multiple comorbidities on quality of life. He also has extensive experience managing complex medical conditions, particularly in patients requiring multidisciplinary care.
Dr Khateeb frequently provides advice regarding support services at home and decisions regarding transition to residential care, working closely with Aged Care Assessment Teams (ACAT) and discharge planning services. There is increasing demand for Dr Khateeb’s expertise in assessing decision-making capacity for legal and healthcare matters, including enduring powers of attorney (EPOA), wills, fitness to drive, and health and lifestyle decisions. His opinion is also sought regarding patient suitability for cardiac interventions, oncology treatments, and pre- and post-operative surgical care.
Dr Khateeb has served in the public health system, including as Director of Clinical Training at Royal Brisbane Hospital and Senior Staff Specialist at Gold Coast University Hospital and Robina Hospital. He now provides comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care at Mater Private Hospital Gold Coast. He remains a Visiting Specialist at Pindara Hospital and John Flynn Hospital and also visits residential aged care facilities by arrangement.
Dr Khateeb is passionate about teaching and is Clinical Lead for Aged Care and Rehabilitation at Griffith University School of Medicine and Dentistry. He is also an examiner for specialist physicians with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and is involved in a number of community activities, including speaking engagements with community and carer groups.
