Biography

Dr Mona Lwin is a Cardiologist with subspecialty expertise in adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) and echocardiography, including advanced perioperative and structural imaging for structural intervention.

She is experienced in transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography for perioperative and periprocedural structural interventions, including atrial septal defect (ASD) and patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure, as well as other complex ACHD structural interventions.

Dr Lwin undertook five years of hospital practice following graduation, including three years of physician training with Queensland Health. She subsequently completed four years of advanced training in adult cardiology at The Prince Charles Hospital and Gold Coast University Hospital.

She then pursued international subspecialty training in the United Kingdom, commencing with a Fellowship in Adult Congenital Heart Disease at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. This was followed by a further Fellowship in ACHD Echocardiography, Stress Echocardiography, and Perioperative/Periprocedural Transoesophageal Echocardiography at the Royal Brompton Hospital, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Lwin subsequently worked for four years as a Consultant Cardiologist in Adult Congenital Heart Disease within the NHS, at both University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Barts Health NHS Trust.

Dr Lwin is passionate about education and teaching, having presented at international, national, and regional conferences, and successfully organising the annual ACHD echocardiography course during her time at Barts Health NHS Trust.

She holds specialist registration in both Australia and the United Kingdom and is deeply committed to advancing ACHD services and education in Queensland, recognising the rapidly growing ACHD population.
