Biography
Dr Nathaniel Chandra is a specialist rehabilitation medicine physician consulting at Mater Private Hospital Townsville. He treats patients across the full spectrum of rehabilitation medicine, from musculoskeletal and orthopaedic recovery to neurological and amputee care. His practice also includes chronic pain management, workplace injury rehabilitation and the reconditioning of patients with complex medical or surgical needs. He has a particular interest in pre-surgical optimisation (prehabilitation) and the multidisciplinary management of low back pain.
He is a graduate of Griffith University with a Doctor of Medicine and also holds a Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine from the University of Sydney.
Dr Chandra completed his specialist training in rehabilitation medicine at several major teaching hospitals across Queensland, including the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, the Surgical Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS), and Mater Private Hospital Brisbane. His advanced training also included statewide specialty placements at the Spinal Injuries Unit and the Brain Injury Unit at Princess Alexandra Hospital. During his specialist training, he was awarded the Katrak Medal in recognition of excellence.
Dr Chandra is a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (FAFRM) through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
His treatment approach is one of compassion and person-centred care, with the aim of restoring independence and improving patients’ quality of life through coordinated multidisciplinary collaboration. He takes an interest in providing exceptional care tailored to each patient’s personal goals.
