Biography
Dr Nicholas Phillips is a paediatric and adult ENT surgeon with advanced training and subspecialty expertise in paediatric and adult nasal obstruction, snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) surgery.
Dr Phillips is committed to providing comprehensive care to paediatric patients, drawing on extensive experience across regional and tertiary healthcare settings in Queensland and New South Wales. He spent more than 12 months at Queensland Children’s Hospital, further developing his expertise in delivering high-quality paediatric care. After attaining a Fellowship in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Dr Phillips completed advanced subspecialty training in snoring and sleep apnoea surgery for both children and adults under the mentorship of internationally recognised surgeon Professor Stuart MacKay. During this time, he also gained further experience in advanced sinus surgery, thyroid surgery and parathyroid surgery.
Dr Phillips is actively involved in clinical research and holds a Master of Surgery from the University of Sydney where he was awarded a High Distinction for his dissertation on thyroid cancer. During his ENT training, he received the prestigious Frank Szallasi Research Prize. His research has resulted in multiple international publications, and he has been invited to present on sleep apnoea at national and international conferences, covering topics including sleep apnoea, thyroid cancer and paediatrics. He has also been an investigator in hypoglossal nerve stimulation device trials for obstructive sleep apnoea and co-authored chapters in the forthcoming edition of the textbook Sleep Apnea and Snoring.
As a Senior Lecturer on The University of Queensland’s Faculty of Medicine, Dr Phillips is committed to medical education, mentoring junior doctors and training ENT registrars. He was recognised with an Outstanding Teaching Award from Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
Born and raised on the Sunshine Coast, Dr Phillips completed his Bachelor of Science (Biomedical) and Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degrees at The University of Queensland. He is committed to delivering the highest standard of care across all aspects of ENT, head and neck surgery, with a strong focus on clear communication, patient-centred care and personalised treatment to achieve optimal outcomes.
Dr Phillips holds public appointments at Gold Coast University Hospital and Tweed Valley Hospital and participates in multidisciplinary head and neck cancer clinics.
