Biography
Dr Prath Nakka is a breast and endocrine surgeon with expertise in breast cancer, benign breast disease, oncoplastic breast surgery including reconstruction, and thyroid and parathyroid surgery. She also manages selected general surgical conditions, including skin cancer surgery, consulting and operating across Mater Private Hospital Redland and Mater Private Hospital Brisbane.She also manages selected general surgical conditions, including skin cancer surgery, consulting and operating across Mater Private Hospital Redland and Mater Private Hospital Brisbane.
Dr Nakka completed her medical degree at the University of Otago before undertaking specialist general surgical training in Queensland and New South Wales, attaining her fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Following this, she completed further breast and endocrine surgery subspecialty training at hospitals in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. Dr Nakka later completed a Master of Surgery in Breast Surgery through the University of Sydney, with research focused on breast reconstruction following prophylactic mastectomy.
In addition to her private practice, Dr Nakka works at Redland and Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospitals. She served for five years as Director of Surgery at Redland Hospital, where she led surgical governance, service development, workforce support and expanded access to specialist surgical care. She was also involved in facilitating major service improvements, including the development of intensive care capability at Redland Hospital.
Dr Nakka contributes actively to surgical education through teaching, supervision and mentorship of surgical trainees, junior doctors, interns and medical students. She is also involved in research and dissertation supervision. She is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of BreastSurgANZ and Australian and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons. Her practice is grounded in evidence-based, multidisciplinary and patient-centred care, with a focus on clear communication and careful surgical decision-making.
