Biography
Dr Robert Perel is a cardiologist with sub-specialty training in cardiac electrophysiology and specialises in heart rhythm disorders and cardiac electronic implanted devices.
He provides assessment and management of patients with symptoms of arrhythmia including palpitations, dizziness, slow or fast heart beats and syncope, and patients with heart rhythm disorders including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, ectopic beats, ventricular tachycardia, cardiomyopathies and inherited arrhythmias.
Dr Perel performs diagnostic electrophysiology studies, atrial fibrillation ablation, atrial flutter ablation, supraventricular tachycardia ablation, ventricular ectopy and ventricular tachycardia ablation and implantation of cardiac electronic devices (pacemakers, implantable cardiac defibrillators, cardiac resynchronisation therapy devices and implanted cardiac monitors / loop recorders). He provides ongoing cardiac device management including programming, follow-up and remote follow-up for applicable devices.
Dr Perel is also a general cardiologist, offering consultation and management for patients with coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, heart failure and valvular heart disease.
Dr Perel is a graduate of the University of Queensland with degrees in Medicine and Veterinary Science. He undertook his physician and cardiology specialty training in Queensland, predominantly at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Princess Alexandra Hospital. He completed a two-year fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology with the University of Toronto at St Michaels’ Hospital in Toronto, Canada. Dr Perel is recognised as a Certified Electrophysiology Specialist and Cardiac Device Specialist by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE), affiliated with the Heart Rhythm Society.
Dr Perel performs procedures at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane, Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane and Mater Hospital Brisbane. He operates Queensland Cardiovascular Group’s clinic at Roma Hospital each month.
