Biography

Dr Sam Heshmat completed his advanced training in Queensland, which included a fellowship in Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders. Dr Heshmat also completed a fellowship in neuromuscular diseases with a particular focus on diagnostic neurophysiology, including nerve conduction studies and electromyography.

Dr Heshmat is passionate about establishing a multidisciplinary clinic for patients with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. This would include provision of advanced device assisted therapies for Parkinson’s disease such as various infusions and deep brain stimulation. He is also an expert in diagnosing and treating other movement disorders such as tremor, dystonia, balance and ataxic disorders.

Dr Heshmat is also a general neurologist who manages a wide range of neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, stroke, epilepsy and headache disorders.

He is currently holding various academic positions including senior lecturer at the University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research, senior lecturer at Griffith University’s School of Medicine, and adjunct lecturer at Griffith University’s School of Science and Environment.

Dr Heshmat has a passionate interest in neuroscience research. He is currently involved in a number of research projects with primary focus on movement disorders and Parkinson’s disease, which are conducted in collaboration with University of Queensland and Griffith University.

Dr Heshmat is currently in charge of the neurology advanced training program at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
