Dr Samuel Dowthwaite

Paediatric ENT, adult sinus disease, snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea, head and neck oncology, thyroid and parathyroid disease, laryngology.

Dr Sam Dowthwaite has called the Gold Coast home throughout his life and is excited to return to the community where he was raised. He completed his primary and secondary schooling on the Gold Coast before undertaking a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Griffith University. He then completed his medical degree at The University of Queensland, followed by advanced training in ENT and head and neck surgery through various placements across Queensland. Dr Dowthwaite was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons following successful completion of his examination in 2011.

Dr Dowthwaite practices across all aspects of ENT and head and neck surgery and enjoys the diversity of patients and conditions encountered in his practice. He performed the first transoral robotic surgery in Queensland and continues to advance robotic surgery programs at John Flynn Private Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.

His primary aim is to provide the highest standard of care to all patients across the full scope of ENT and head and neck surgery. He is accredited at major private hospitals throughout the Gold Coast, as well as Greenslopes Private Hospital in Brisbane. Dr Dowthwaite holds public appointments at Gold Coast University Hospital and Robina Hospital and participates in multidisciplinary head and neck cancer clinics that support coordinated care for patients with complex conditions.

Dr Dowthwaite is actively involved in clinical research and is a Senior Lecturer at Griffith University. He is passionate about mentoring medical students, resident medical officers and registrars, and he enjoys teaching the next generation of healthcare professionals. Dr Dowthwaite has published widely across various areas of head and neck surgery and has presented at local, national and international scientific meetings. His research collaborations continue to expand through partnerships between Griffith University and Gold Coast University Hospital with the aim of improving outcomes for patients.
