Biography
Dr Simon Kang is an Interventional and General Cardiologist who was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2019. He graduated from the University of Sydney in 2010 and went on to complete his cardiology training at Princess Alexandra Hospital and Gold Coast University Hospital. He subsequently undertook two years of fellowship training in Perth at Royal Perth Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital, specialising in coronary intervention. Dr Kang was awarded the prestigious Chien Foundation Scholarship and completed a 12-month fellowship at the National Heart Centre Singapore.
Dr Kang has extensive experience in complex coronary intervention, managing patients with complex bifurcation disease, left main coronary disease, bypass graft disease and chronic total occlusions (CTO) using advanced interventional techniques. These include rotational and orbital atherectomy, intravascular lithotripsy and invasive coronary imaging techniques such as intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT).
Dr Kang has a particular interest in complex and high-risk coronary intervention, including CTO intervention, coronary physiology, and the diagnosis and management of both acute and stable coronary artery disease. He is also a Staff Specialist Cardiologist at Gold Coast University Hospital and an Associate Lecturer at The University of Queensland where he is actively involved in teaching junior doctors and medical students.
