Dr Simon West is a gynaecological oncologist with extensive surgical and non-surgical expertise, caring for patients with benign gynaecological conditions through to complex gynaecological cancers operating at Mater Private Hospital Redland and Mater Private Hospital Brisbane.

Dr West is among a select group of Brisbane specialists with advanced subspecialty training and accreditation in gynaecologic oncology, providing comprehensive care across the full spectrum of women’s gynaecological health.

He has completed dedicated training in robotic surgery, enabling him to offer open, minimally invasive and robotic gynaecological surgery. This expertise allows him to harness advanced surgical technology to enhance precision, aid recovery, and support patient outcomes.

Dr West began his healthcare career as a physiotherapist before studying medicine at the University of Sydney. He completed his early medical training at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, followed by specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology across hospitals in New South Wales.

In 2022, Dr West was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG). He was subsequently selected for subspecialty training in gynaecologic oncology and became the inaugural accredited fellow of the Northern Sydney Gynaecologic Cancer Centre.

Dr West relocated to Brisbane to undertake advanced subspecialty training at Mater Hospital Brisbane and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and achieved subspecialist certification in gynaecologic oncology in 2024.

Drawing on his background in physiotherapy, Dr West has a strong interest in enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS), optimisation of surgical outcomes, and the multidisciplinary management of women with gynaecological cancers.

Dr West is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based, patient-centred care, supporting women through every stage of their diagnostic and treatment journey.
