Biography
Dr Sophie Offen is an Interventional and Structural Cardiologist consulting and operating at Mater Private Hospital Townsville.
She graduated with First Class Honours in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Sydney in 2011 and completed her training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at Royal Prince Alfred and St Vincent’s Hospitals in Sydney in 2018.
In 2023, Dr Offen was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) for her postgraduate research into tricuspid valve disease. She then completed three-years of advanced interventional fellowship training in coronary and valvular heart disease at leading centres in Vancouver, Canada, gaining extensive experience in minimally invasive, cutting-edge transcatheter techniques.
Since returning to Australia, Dr Offen has served as a Staff Specialist in Interventional Cardiology and leads the rapidly growing Structural Heart Program at Townsville University Hospital.
She is highly skilled in a broad range of interventional procedures, including coronary angiography and stenting, right heart catheterisation, intracoronary imaging and physiology assessment, calcium modification techniques, and complex coronary interventions.
Dr Offen’s special interest lies in the management of valvular and structural heart disease, in particular the use of minimally invasive transcatheter techniques. These include transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), valve-in-valve procedures (aortic, mitral, tricuspid), mitral and tricuspid valve repair (MitraClip/TriClip), and closure of PFO/ASD’s.
