Biography

Dr Stephen Torbey is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with subspecialty training in foot and ankle surgery, consulting and operating at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane.

He grew up in Brisbane and completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy before graduating in Medicine from the University of Queensland in 2010.

Dr Torbey undertook orthopaedic training throughout Queensland and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic
Association in early 2022.  He subsequently worked in Toowoomba across both public and private hospitals before travelling to the United Kingdom for further subspecialty training.

He completed a 12 month foot and ankle fellowship at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, where he refined his expertise in procedures including total ankle replacement,
joint fusion and minimally invasive surgery under the guidance of senior foot and ankle surgeons.

He has also undertaken additional local and international courses to further advance his surgical skills. 

Dr Torbey treats a wide range of foot, ankle and knee conditions, as well as traumatic  orthopaedic injuries. He has contributed to published orthopaedic research and presented at local conferences.

Dr Torbey is also actively involved in teaching orthopaedic registrars, junior doctors and
medical students.
