Dr Susan Bell is a General, Breast and Endocrine Surgeon with a special interest in oncoplastic breast surgery.

Originally from the Netherlands, Dr Bell graduated from medical school in 2003 and worked as a junior doctor in Utrecht before relocating to Australia in 2006. She subsequently entered the Queensland General Surgical Training Program, completing her training in 2014 and becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).

During her surgical training, Dr Bell developed a particular interest in breast and endocrine surgery. She undertook a further two years of post-fellowship training through BreastSurgANZ, gaining advanced experience in oncoplastic breast surgery and endocrine surgery. Her first fellowship was at Mater Hospital Brisbane under the supervision of Professor Chris Pyke, followed by an interstate fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, one of Australia's leading centres for advanced oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery. She has also completed a Master's degree in Advanced Surgery (Breast Surgery).

After returning to Brisbane, Dr Bell worked in several locum positions at Mater Hospital Brisbane and Princess Alexandra Hospital before taking up a permanent position at Ipswich Hospital in 2018. In early 2026, she joined the team at the newly established Mater Hospital Springfield.

Dr Bell is a Senior Lecturer at The University of Queensland, where she enjoys teaching and mentoring medical students. She also holds an appointment with BreastScreen Queensland and teaches on the ASSET surgical skills course, supporting the development of future surgical trainees.

Alongside her public hospital work, Dr Bell has an established private practice offering specialist care in breast and endocrine surgery, as well as a range of general surgical conditions, including gallbladder disease and hernias requiring laparoscopic or open repair.

Dr Bell is committed to providing compassionate, individualised and patient-centred care. She combines meticulous attention to detail with a strong focus on achieving the best possible functional and cosmetic outcomes for her patients.
