Dr Thomas Chalk

Spinal pain, neuropathic pain, regional anaesthesia, neuromodulation, peripheral musculoskeletal conditions (including hip, knee and shoulder join osteoarthritis), complex regional pain syndrome. 

Dr Thomas Chalk is a dual-trained specialist anaesthetist and specialist pain medicine physician. Prior to medicine, he worked as a physiotherapist, completing his physiotherapy and exercise science degrees at Griffith University on the Gold Coast in 2005. He worked in private practice with a focus on musculoskeletal physiotherapy, motor retraining and functional exercise, including Pilates.

Dr Chalk completed his medical degree at Griffith University on the Gold Coast and undertook specialist training in anaesthesia and pain medicine across South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales. He completed his Pain Medicine Fellowship at the Professor Tess Cramond Pain and Research Centre at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Interdisciplinary Persistent Pain Centre within the Gold Coast Health Service. Dr Chalk has completed postgraduate interventional training in spinal cord stimulation, spinal and peripheral joint radiofrequency ablation, and dorsal root ganglion stimulation.

With a strong focus on exercise-based strategies and long-term self-management, Dr Chalk is committed to a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to pain management. He offers a range of diagnostic and interventional pain procedures to support patients in their rehabilitation and help them return to the activities that matter most.

Dr Chalk’s clinical interests include spinal pain, neuropathic pain, regional anaesthesia, neuromodulation and peripheral musculoskeletal conditions, including hip, knee and shoulder osteoarthritis. He also has an interest in managing post-surgical pain conditions and complex regional pain syndrome. As an anaesthetist, Dr Chalk is available to discuss sedation and anaesthetic options with patients. He sees WorkCover, Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), third-party and self-funded patients.
