A/Prof Thomas Nathow

Acute and subacute medicine; diabetes and endocrinology

A/Prof Thomas Nathow is a Consultant Physician practising at Mater Private Hospital Springfield and Mater Hospital Springfield.

After graduating in 1997 from the University of Leipzig, Dr Nathow completed advanced training in Internal Medicine and subsequently obtained further qualifications in Sleep Medicine and Emergency Medicine.

Following a voluntary year as a Senior House Officer at the emergency departments at Caboolture and Redcliffe hospitals, Dr Nathow relocated to Australia in 2008 to take up a position as Consultant Physician in General Medicine at Ipswich Hospital. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2010.

A/Prof Nathow's clinical interests include acute and subacute medicine, the management of complex medical conditions, and inpatient general medicine.

He is actively involved in teaching and mentoring junior doctors, as well as supervising third-year medical students from The University of Queensland.

In 2014, A/Prof Nathow founded the Ipswich Research Institute to provide local patients with access to national and international clinical research opportunities.

Through this work, he has helped foster collaboration between researchers, pharmaceutical companies, and the local healthcare community to support advancements in medical care.
