Biography

Dr Udaya Ponangi is a Cardiologist at Mater Private Hospital Townsville, whose clinical interests and experience include interventional and general cardiology, imaging and heart failure:

  • Coronary interventions (Angiograms and Stent placements)
  • Cardiac Imaging (Advance echocardiography and stress testing)
  • Heart failure management
  • General and preventive cardiology.

Dr Ponangi has worked in many renowned, high volume centres overseas and in Australia and has performed more than 10,000 coronary catheterization procedures with excellent outcomes.

In addition to interventional cardiology, he has done an Advance Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Fellowship at Fiona Stanley Hospital and an Imaging Fellowship at Mount Hospitals.

Dr Ponangi has developed innovative techniques for dealing with complex primary angioplasty problems and has done extensive research on coronary guide catheters during his long career. He wrote a book on “Evaluation of Unexplained Syncope.”

While working at Townsville University Hospital, he published challenging interventions in international journals like BMJ and JACC.
