Dr Victor Chen

Dr Victor Chen is a Consultant and Interventional Cardiologist with more than 20 years’ experience in specialist cardiology and tertiary-level cardiac care. Dr Chen completed his MBChB at the University of Otago, including an intercalated Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSc) in Bioethics and Philosophy. He undertook Advanced Cardiology Training at Gold Coast Hospital in 2002 and The Prince Charles Hospital from 2003 to 2004, obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and Fellowship of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (FCSANZ).

In 2005, he was appointed Staff Specialist at Gold Coast Hospital before completing an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital and Icahn School of Medicine in New York. This fellowship provided extensive experience in high-volume angioplasty and structural heart procedures alongside academic and research training.

Prior to returning to the Gold Coast, Dr Chen was a Senior Clinical Lecturer and Interventional Cardiologist at Dunedin Hospital and the University of Otago from 2006 to 2013. He also served as Director of Physician Training for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. During this time, he developed expertise in the management of acute coronary syndromes, emergency angioplasty services, transradial coronary intervention and complex coronary artery disease while contributing to international clinical research involving emerging cardiovascular therapies and technologies.
