Biography

Dr Karen Bensted is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with a special interest in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, general gastroenterology, and bowel cancer screening. 

Dr Bensted has recently relocated to Brisbane, after completing her gastroenterology training in Sydney.  

She was employed as a Gastroenterology Staff Specialist at the Sutherland Public Hospital in Sydney from 2023 to 2025.  

Dr Bensted completed her specialist gastroenterology training at St George Hospital and The Sutherland Hospital, Sydney.  

She then completed a fellowship in inflammatory bowel disease at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney in 2021. 

Dr Bensted is currently completing her master’s degree through the University of New South Wales, in bone health in inflammatory bowel disease.  

She has previously published in the areas of inflammatory bowel disease, and the impact of telehealth on gastroenterology patients.  

Dr Bensted is a member of the Gastroenterology Society of Australia (GESA).  

Dr Bensted is accredited to perform gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures at Mater Private Hospital Redland.
