Prof Ajay Rane

Professor Ajay Rane MBBS MSC MD FRCS FRANZCOG FRCOG CU FICOG (Hon) is a sub-specialty trained certified Urogynaecologist practicing in Townsville.  He is the Professor and head of dept. in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the James Cook University School of Medicine.  He is a Visiting Medical Officer at the Mater Hospital Townsville and Director of Urogynaecology at the Townsville Hospital. 

Professor Ajay Rane specializes in minimally invasive surgery for urinary incontinence, genital prolapse and fistulas.  He has personally designed an operation called Perigee for bladder prolapse.  Professor Ranes’ research interests include slings for incontinence, various different types of meshes for prolapse repair and different postures adopted by human beings for micturition and bowel movement.

His unit comprises of research fellows from Australia and third world countries, Urogynaecology nurses and various other staff like physiotherapists, dieticians, physiologists etc.

Professor Rane travels all over the world demonstrating his minimally invasive surgeries which in 97% of cases are now done as ambulatory day case surgery.
