Biography

Dr Macemon is a New Zealand trained Specialist Cardiothoracic Surgeon with expertise in total arterial and off-pump coronary revasculatisation, minimally invasive aortic valve surgery, rheumatic heart disease, aortic aneurysm management (including experience in the PEARS procedure), and VATS anatomical lung preserving oncological resections.

Following completion of his medical degree through the University of Otago, Dr Macemon completed the Diploma In Musculoskeletal Medicine with a focus on Pain and Pain Management. He then went on to advanced training in General Surgery with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and completed Specialist training in Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2019.

Dr Macemon holds Fellowships in Cardiothoracic Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, is a recipient of the Joint Surgical Colleges Medal, and has full General and Vocational/Specialist registration in both Australia and New Zealand.

He is passionate about the welfare of his patients, with research interests in preventative medicine, prehabilitation, patient education, perioperative risk reduction, and enhanced recovery pathways in both cardiac and thoracic surgery.

Outside of the clinical realm Dr Macemon has interests in the design and development of aximanual instruments for minimally invasive and open surgery, and is currently studying towards Master of Health Services Management.
