Depending on how your baby is delivered, you can expect to remain in hospital for three to five days after your baby’s birth. Your obstetrician and your baby’s paediatrician will check the wellbeing of you and your baby before you both leave the hospital. Please arrange appointments with your obstetrician and paediatrician for six weeks after your baby’s birth.
Length of stay
- Vaginal birth: ~3 nights
- Caesarean birth: ~5 nights (Provided there are no complications)
- If your baby requires longer care in our Special Care Nursery, boarder accommodation is available for you and your partner at no extra cost.
- Discharge time is 10 am daily
Discharge
Please ensure that you have pre-arranged for someone to be available to pick you up at 10am on the anticipated day of discharge and that your baby safety restraint has been fitted securely, prior to your discharge. If you perceive any problems with these discharge requirements, please inform your midwife or nurse as early as possible so that other arrangements can be made.
Postnatal check-ups and support
- Midwives are available by phone during the first few days at home.
- Postnatal check-up with your obstetrician: ~6 weeks
- Baby’s check-up with paediatrician: ~6 weeks

We continue to support you and your baby after you leave the hospital, including:
- 24/7 Midwife Hotline
- Lactation consultant support
- Boarder accommodation in Special Care Nursery
- Antenatal classes (in-person)
- 24-hour emergency care and direct-to-ward admissions
- Mother’s support group
