Mater Springfield newborns gifted Brisbane Lions memberships

News

Every baby born at Mater Hospital Springfield is being gifted a Brisbane Lions membership, with the club's gesture expected to welcome around 1,700 new Lion Cubs into the pride each year.

To foster a Lion love connection from birth, all newborns will receive a free membership and a baby pack with beanie, socks, rattle toy and supporter’s scarf.

The newest member of the pride is baby Isabella, who was born at the Mater Hospital Springfield at the end of May to parents Emma and Kyle.

“Kyle and I welcome Isabella as a young supporter of the Lions,” Ms Serra said.

“We are very much looking forward to creating memories as a family when she is old enough to come and watch the games and enjoy the atmosphere as much as we do.”

Brisbane Lions AFLW player, Natalie Grider is a student midwife at Mater and is welcoming future Lion cubs into the world weekly.

"I love working as a midwife and getting to bring new babies into the world," Ms Grider said.

"Knowing they're becoming part of the Lions family from day one makes it even more special. Hopefully we'll see plenty of new Brisbane fans among them, and maybe even some future AFLW and AFL players."

Mater Hospital Springfield General Manager Suzanne Hawksley said Isabella’s membership marked an exciting milestone for both the Brisbane Lions and Mater.

“This record-breaking moment is a fantastic opportunity to recognise the partnership between two organisations committed to improving the health and wellbeing of Queenslanders,” Ms Hawksley said.

“We are so grateful to the Lions for celebrating the 1,700 Lion Cubs we are expecting to be born at Mater Mothers’ Springfield each year.”

The initiative comes as the Brisbane Lions surpass 75,000 members for the second consecutive year and close in on breaking the club's all-time membership record of 75,115.
