Congratulations to Clinical Director, Flying Obstetric and Gynaecology Service Dr Adam Bush who won in the Mater Contribution to Clinical Excellence, category of the Mater People Awards.    

The award sought to recognise an individual for excellence in delivering or supporting quality clinical outcomes and patient care celebrating the way they lead, inspire and collaborate to drive high quality outcomes in healthcare.

In just over a year since joining Mater, Dr Adam Bush has assumed a leadership role and transformed the Flying Obstetric and Gynaecology service, staffed by Mater.

He has been instrumental in reimagining clinical care in remote Western Queensland, where healthcare was fragmented across three neighbouring services. Leveraging Mater’s suite of clinical guidelines, Dr Bush introduced high quality, consistent care that is evidence-based and up-to-date.

Working hand-in-hand with other health service providers, and leveraging his friendly, calm and engaging manner, he has forged a strong bond with both Queensland Health and with communities that rely on fly-in fly-out specialists to bring best practice healthcare close to home.

He supported the evolution of innovative tracking systems, closing safety gaps and engaged telehealth to reach out to women living in isolated settings from rural hubs; women now contending with an additional barrier due to COVID-19.

He mentored and provided practical support to the next generation of Mater specialists through rotational registrar placements. This enhanced surgical opportunities and created a uniquely interactive apprenticeship approach to medical training of small teams in remote settings.

Adam tied for first place with the Day Procedure Unit, Cardiac Catheter Laboratory from Mater Private Hospital Townsville.
