Obstetric Medicine

The department of obstetric medicine is a comprehensive preconception, antenatal and post-natal service for public and privately insured women birthing or intending to birth at Mater Mothers' Hospital and Mater Mothers' Private Brisbane.

The service is staffed by 10 accredited obstetric physicians with subspecialty expertise in endocrinology, haematology, nephrology, and infectious diseases. This is supported by a diabetes service comprising of 5 credentialed diabetes educators and dietitians, a research project officer and with enrolled nurse support.

We provide 24-hour inpatient support with onsite obstetric medicine fellows and a consultant led outpatient service 5 days a week. The department also chairs the very high-risk maternity multidisciplinary team (MDT), (inclusive of obstetrics, MFM, anaesthetics, critical care, cardiology) convened monthly for intrapartum planning of our highest risk cohort.
