Balance Well is an exercise and balance program designed to keep you moving well and reduce your risk of falls. Each week you will learn more about how to improve your balance and stay safe on your feet. Mater at Home’s ballet classes provide a wonderful opportunity to connect with like-minded people who enjoy movement, music and dance. Each week you will learn more about ballet movements and progress through different positions and components of ballet repertoires such as Swan Lake. Due to the progressive nature of Parkinson’s Disease, regular engagement in therapy is recommended. Mater at Home’s Parkinson’s Wellness Group is a multidisciplinary program designed to improve quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s Disease. This group strives to provide people who are living with Parkinson’s Disease a cost effective and holistic way of maintaining their wellbeing and independence through therapy and social engagement. Mindfulness is the ability to pay attention to an experience in a particular way, purposefully, in the present moment, without drifting into thoughts of the past or worries about the future, and without making any judgements about the experience. In these sessions, you will learn practical tools to implement in daily practice, guided meditation, mindfulness exercises, wind down exercises and explore a weekly theme. Mater at Home’s Aqua Well classes are conducted in a heated pool and provide an opportunity for effective exercise for people who find land-based exercise difficult. The advantage with aquatic therapy is that the heated water reduces the load on your joints and can also reduce muscle tightness. Aqua Well is a low intensity exercise and balance training program.
