Since its foundation more than a century ago, Mater has endeavoured to address the unmet health needs of growing Queensland communities. 

Greater Ipswich is one of Australia’s fastest growing regions. Since opening the first hospital in Springfield in 2015, Mater has recognised the continued need to invest in healthcare services for this growing community.

For this reason, Mater is opening a new purpose-built education, health and wellbeing centre for the local community.

Opening in July 2023, the family-focused Mater Health Hub, Springfield will provide a range of health and wellbeing services for families.

Currently under construction in Springfield Central, the new facility will be located closer to both Mater Private Hospital Springfield and upcoming Mater Hospital Springfield.

Mater Health Hub, Springfield will include:

  • allied health, renal services, women’s healthcare, paediatric and child development services

  • group wellbeing and health services including balance classes, diet and nutrition programs, group therapy, corporate wellness services and health literacy courses

  • consulting rooms for doctors from nearby Mater Private Hospital Springfield

  • Mater Education training and simulation rooms to deliver its popular Diploma of Nursing program and provide students with practical, hands-on experience in nearby Mater Private Hospital

Current Mater services at Brookwater Health Clinic, including specialist consulting rooms, will transfer to the new health hub.

Other services within the health hub precinct include Mater Pathology, a childcare centre, a large GP practice, a chemist, a cafe and a gym with a focus on families and children.

Workforce of tomorrow

Mater’s investment and commitment to the Greater Springfield region includes growing a local healthcare workforce and providing a career path for young people living in the area.
