Jobseekers are set to converge on Springfield for the Mater Hospital Springfield Careers Expo this Saturday 22 November.
The event will provide an opportunity for locals to understand the vast range of clinical and non-clinical roles available when Greater Springfield’s first public hospital – Mater Hospital Springfield –opens from April 2026.
Mater Hospital Springfield General Manager Suzanne Hawksley said Mater staff would be at Mater Health Hub, Springfield – at 95 Southern Cross Circuit, Springfield Central – to answer questions about the 1,000 jobs which will be available at the new hospital.
The jobs range from cooks and cleaners to nurses, midwives and administrative staff.
Close to 1,000 jobseekers are expected to attend the careers event.
“The first roles for Mater Hospital Springfield are now open for application and over the coming months many, many more will be advertised,” Ms Hawksley said.
“The Careers Expo will bring representatives from all Mater service areas together to give an overview of the available roles and provide some top tips on applying.
“Mater Hospital Springfield is an incredible milestone for our community, with the facility set to boost local employment by more than eight per cent once fully operational."
“We are looking for all areas and skill levels: from our emergency and neonatal nurses to customer services and maintenance technicians.
“Hospitals are communities in their own right, so there is a role for everyone – if you want any more information at all, we would love to see you this weekend.”
The Careers Expo will run from 8.00am until 3.00pm and will include presentations from Mater’s leadership team, as well as free coffee for attendees.
Mater Hospital Springfield will dramatically expand the range of hospital services provided to the community, easing the pressure on public hospitals in Ipswich, Logan and Brisbane’s south-west.
The nine-storey facility in Healthcare Drive will include the region’s first emergency department and a nine-bed intensive care unit, with 10 operating theatres available for public surgery.
The hospital will also provide maternity services, with referrals for Mater Mothers’ Springfield now open for women with a due date from late May 2026.
The new hospital will also offer a 24/7 Pregnancy Assessment Centre for emergency care, a 16-bed maternity ward and six birth suites.
