The Bundaberg community is being encouraged to lace up their running shoes and register for the 2026 Mater Chicks in Pink International Women’s Day Fun Run presented by Queensland X-Ray.
Locals can help raise money to advance research and improve care for people with breast cancer by doing 5K Your Way between 1– 8 March 2026.
Bundaberg Mayor Helen Blackburn will don an iconic pink Fun Run t-shirt and join the fundraising effort.
“There’s no better way to support people in our community fighting breast cancer by registering for the International Women’s Day Fun Run and joining the Sea of Pink,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“So many people in our community have a breast cancer story, whether it’s their own story or through friends or family members who have fought the disease.
“Raising money for Mater Chicks in Pink will help those people in our community and across Queensland.”
Mater Private Hospital Bundaberg (MPHBg) coworkers – Cindy Monk, Emily Ryan, Tiffany Ellsworth and Alice Darlison – are leading the charge, and will join a group of Mater People completing a 5K course along the Esplanade in Bargara on International Women’s Day (Sunday 8 March).
“I’m taking part to honour my grandmother, and because women’s health is something I’m passionate about,” said MPHBg administration assistant Alice Darlison.
“I believe in the impact this event can have in raising awareness, generating funds, and driving change to improve women’s lives.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to participate and contribute to such an important cause.”
Mater Private Hospital Bundaberg General Manager Catherine Hackney said money raised would help to support patients and their families impacted by breast cancer.
“We know one in every four Queenslanders with breast cancer will be treated at a Mater hospital in Queensland, and Mater Chicks in Pink does vital work to support those patients,” Ms Hackney said.
“Bundaberg locals can join almost 30,000 people walking, running and rolling across Queensland, helping us reach our goal of raising $2 million for Mater Chicks in Pink.
“Whether you’re joining our Mater People in Bargara on International Women’s Day or running your own race, you can do 5K Your Way and help improve the care and outcomes of people with breast cancer.”
