Together, we stand stronger: Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Mater

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to honour the strength and resilience of those impacted by breast cancer — including patients, survivors, families, and caregivers.

At Mater Queensland, we are deeply committed to raising awareness, promoting early detection through regular breast screening, and supporting life-saving breast cancer research and compassionate care.

Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing inspiring stories from individuals on their breast cancer journey, highlighting the importance of breast health, and showcasing the incredible work of our clinicians and researchers across Mater hospitals and services. From prevention to treatment and recovery, Mater stands with Queenslanders every step of the way.

Join us in turning awareness into action — because together, we can improve outcomes and make a lasting difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer.

Your medical care with Mater

Up to 50 per cent of women diagnosed find their breast cancers themselves. This means self-examination and becoming familiar with your breasts is vital for you to recognise any changes - it's the key to early detection.

If you do find something unusual, your GP can refer you to one of our incredible specialists at Mater for support and care.

So, this October, grab your breastie and do your breast check together. Or challenge a friend to do theirs—it’s a small action that could have a big impact.
