Congratulations to the Day Procedure Unit, Cardiac Catheter Laboratory Team at Mater Private Hospital Townsville who won in the Mater Contribution to Clinical Excellence, category of the Mater People Awards.
The award sought to recognise an individual for excellence in delivering or supporting quality clinical outcomes and patient care celebrating the way they lead, inspire and collaborate to drive high quality outcomes in healthcare.
Thanks to the establishment of a new clinical service at Mater Private Hospital Townsville, cardio patients from Mackay to Cairns no longer have to travel to Brisbane and can recover in their own homes among family and friends.
The Cardiac Catheter Laboratory team within the Day Procedure Unit is recognised for introducing an electro physiology service that allows cryoablation—a minimally invasive treatment used to restore normal heart rhythm.
Townsville is the only private hospital north of Brisbane that provides this service. The team overcame the additional challenges of the COVID environment learning new skills via Skype to increase their scope of practice, and ultimately deliver a patient-centred service with resilience and enthusiasm.
They fostered relationships across many Mater units state-wide to make this happen, including Finance, Bookings, Intensive Care, Cardiac and other Catheter labs.
They supported a GP education evening, to ensure the wider community could benefit from their innovation. Six successful cases have been completed since the service commenced in July, without any extended stays or adverse outcomes.
Adam tied for first place with Dr Adam Bush Clinical Director from the Flying Obstetric and Gynaecology Service.
Congratulations to the other finalists for these awards including,
