Meet the Mater People Award Winners - Jenny Murphy

12/Jan/2021     Mater Group

Congratulations to Mater Team Leader of Physiotherapy Jenny Murphy who won in the Mercy in Action Individual category of the Mater People Awards.

The award sought to recognise an individual for outstanding contribution in line with the Mater Mission, Values and Strategy.

Serving Mater for more than 40 years, Jenny’s name has become synonymous with integrity, compassion and excellence in clinical care among patients and peers alike.

Those privileged to work alongside her have borne witness to her expansive skills and experience but beyond that, her genuine care and compassion. The extra time she often takes to hold a patient’s hand, mop a brow or provide some reassuring words whether a patient is conscious or not, are powerful and her interactions epitomise compassion-driven mercy in action.

Jenny is noted for taking Mater’s Mission and Values to new heights but always in a quiet and unassuming way. She is recognised for going that extra mile for ‘unofficially’ being on call for staff and patient support; for cutting short her early morning walk to step in and work weekends at a moment’s notice; and for stepping up under pressure of a pandemic to lead large-scale transformative training to prepare our front-line teams.

Jenny tied with Katherine Jackman, Head of Learning and Development for first place.

Congratulations to the other finalists for these awards including,

  • Tina Bruhl, Social Work
  • Nicholas (Niko) Eliopoulos, Hospital Steward
  • Frances Maguire Program Coordinator, Mothers’, Babies’ Women’s Health Clinical Trials Unit
