Tiffany Clayton has been named Catholic Health Australia’s Emerging Leader of the Year, after being nominated for her significant contributions to Mater at Home’s Social Work and Psychology teams.  

The award is granted to an individual who shows great commitment to leadership through a research project, innovative program, introduction of change management or provides contribution to improving the body of knowledge in health and aged care.   

Over the past 12 months, Ms Clayton has played a pivotal role in two Mater at Home services: CHAMP at Home, which provides support to parenting women who present with issues around alcohol, drug use and mental health; and Homefront, a joint service with Micah Projects, which provides system navigation for patients who present to Mater Hospital Brisbane Emergency Department and are experiencing homelessness.  

Ms Clayton says she’s immensely proud of Mater at Home’s programs and how they’ve been sustained and enhanced over time.  

“The services provide accessible, compassionate care for those whose needs are not always met in mainstream healthcare,” Ms Clayton said.  

“The clients that we work with can face challenging circumstances that sometimes seem insurmountable, and yet they demonstrate what it means to be strong, resilient, and resourceful. 

“It’s a privilege to work alongside them and to hold their trust. 

“I’ve heard some incredible stories. It’s so special to be present with clients as they reflect on their lives. I’ve had World War II veterans who have shared amazing recollections and insights, they’re priceless experiences that will stay with me.  

“I feel so privileged to be part of that, and it’s that personal touch and interest that I think is important - I just genuinely enjoy it.” 

She said her award is reflective of the exceptional work of her team. 

“Together we have been able to achieve outcomes that have had a meaningful impact on the health and wellbeing of our clients,” she said.  

“It’s a true pleasure to work within a team who are as passionate and committed as Mater at Home is.”  

Mater at Home Director Marie Duffy said Ms Clayton is a role model within her team. 

“Providing social work and psychology services can be challenging at times – clients can often be vulnerable and their needs complex and wide-ranging,” Ms Duffy said.  

“Tiffany always delivers holistic and professional care to her clients, regardless of the complexity of the case, all while providing leadership, support and counsel to her colleagues. 

“Tiffany’s work has enhanced Mater at Home’s social work and psychology services, and in turn, has significantly improved outcomes for clients, particularly in the CHAMP at Home and Homefront services. 

“She should be extremely proud of the impact she has made at Mater at Home, and in the broader community.”
