Biography
Associate Professor Daniel Xing is a radiation oncologist providing comprehensive clinical care and consultations both in-person at ICON Cancer Care within Mater Private Hospital Townsville and via telehealth appointment.
A/Prof Xing completed his specialist radiation oncology training at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne in 2021, followed by fellowship training in head and neck cancer, complex skin cancer and MRI-guided radiotherapy at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre at Austin Hospital in Victoria.
His clinical expertise spans a broad range of solid tumour malignancies, with a special interest in skin cancer, head and neck cancer, lung cancer, stereotactic radiotherapy and radiosurgery, breast cancer, gastrointestinal malignancy, palliative radiotherapy and MRI-guided radiotherapy.
A/Prof Xing has brought several international collaborative clinical trials to Townsville, expanding local access to emerging treatments and research opportunities. His active research portfolio focuses on:
1) Developing precision oncology medicine using imaging and serum biomarkers
2) Clinical and translational research in skin cancer
3) Health-economic research to optimise radiation oncology services, particularly in rural and remote Queensland.
He has presented at numerous national and international conferences and published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. His research impact includes a h-index of 22, an i-10 index of 27 and more than 1100 citations.
A/Prof Xing contributes extensively to professional leadership and policy development as a representative of the Faculty of Radiation Oncology (FRO), Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) to support policy and workforce planning and help shape national frameworks that promote accessible, high-quality radiation oncology services across Australia and New Zealand.
As an active member of the Trans-Tasman Radiation Oncology Group (TROG), he is on the organising committee for the annual scientific meeting and contributes to the Head and Neck Skin Working Party, leading national and international collaborative trials in these tumour streams.
