Going home

When your child is ready to go home, your child's doctor and the nursing staff will discuss any discharge requirements with you.

Discharge

If your child has stayed overnight you should be prepared to leave the hospital before 10 am on the day of discharge.  You will be provided with a discharge summary for your child on leaving the hospital.  If required, additional patient care information will also be provided.

We advise you to plan ahead for your child’s discharge as much as possible. If you believe your child will require assistance once you arrive home, please do not hesitate to alert our staff. Should you require in-depth discharge planning for your child, our nursing staff will arrange for a discharge coordinator to assist you.

Hospital charges can include accommodation, use of theatre, prostheses and essential pharmacy items for your child’s care. Charges can vary depending on treatment required, length of stay, prostheses provided, accommodation category and individual private health insurance contracts. Hospital costs do not include non-hospital or medical provider costs such as your child’s doctor, anaesthetist, pathology and X-rays. Additional charges may also include physiotherapy and the hire of physical aids.

If you have any questions about hospital fees and charges, including medications, please contact your health fund insurer directly to discuss any out of pocket expenses prior to the admission of your child.

All known hospital costs (other than those covered by contracted insurers) are payable on admission. They may be paid in cash (Australian dollars), by most credit cards, money orders or travellers cheques. The hospital also has EFTPOS facilities.

If you have any questions about hospital accounts please contact our staff on 07 3163 2489 or 07 3163 2468 between 8 am and 5 pm weekdays (excluding public holidays).
