Your Stay
We understand that coming to hospital can feel overwhelming - especially for children. That's why Mater is here to support you every step of the way. Helping your child feel prepared can make a big difference. Learning about the hospital, their medical condition, and what to expect during treatment can ease anxiety and build confidence.
Encourage your child to ask questions, and feel free to do the same. If something isn't clear, it's OK to say "I don't understand". Our friendly team is always happy to explain and guide you through the process.
Before your child sees one of our Mater specialists, a referral from a GP or another medical practitioner is required. To help you prepare, we've created a series of helpful guides:
- Coming to hospital - What to expect and how to plan for your visit (you can watch the 'My trip to hospital' video below with your child before your stay).
- During your stay - Making your time with us as comfortable as possible.
- Going home - What happens when it's time to leave.
- Care after going home - Support and recovery at home.
- Helpful tips - Advice to make your experience smoother.
