All patients are welcome at Mater Private Emergency. Whether you have private health insurance, WorkCover, Veteran’s Affairs, or have no health insurance, you can be assessed and treated.
Fees you will be required to pay:
- Upfront facility fee: charged by the hospital for the delivery of an emergency service (This is an out-of-pocket fee not claimable from Medicare or private health funds)
- Doctor’s fee: charged separately for your medical consultation (Your doctor will bill Medicare for this fee, so you have no gap fee or out-of-pocket cost to pay)
Additional fees you may be charged:
- Radiology (if you need x-rays, MRI, CT scan) or Pathology (if you need blood tests) – these would be invoiced to you separately by external providers
- Medication, consumables, and medical aides such as crutches – these will be charged as needed, and at cost price.
Please note: Your private health insurance typically covers costs once you are admitted to hospital. Emergency department visits without a hospital admission are not covered by private health insurance.
There will be no fee charged for patients returning to the Emergency Department with the same condition, within a 3-day period.
